The Swedish author, Fredrik Colting, was accused of copyright of J.D. Salinger's "Catcher in the Rye." Colting's argument was that it was not copyright because the character was never called Holden Caulfield, just Mr. C, and the character was 60 years older than Salinger's Caulfield. Colting says that his book is a parody and therefore cannot be considered copyright. Judge Deborah A. Batts disagrees however, and banned the book from being published or advertised in the U.S. Colting was surprised at this because he thought America would be the last place a book would be banned (he obviously has not heard very much about all the battles American grade schools have over books that parents want banned).
The lede is not very exciting, but it summarizes the article well and mentions newsworthy names and titles to pull the reader in. The article is very interesting and gives very detailed information on a controversial issue.
