The Chicago Tribune reports a 3-year-old Plano girl and her mother were found safe in Chicago after a woman who was staying the same apartment complex recognized the two and called police. An Amber Alert had been issued by the Illinois State Police after learning the girl had been allegedly abducted. Police say the mother, 40-year-old Theresa Harskey, was not allowed to be with her daughter, Rheannon, unless the father was present. The Amber Alert was issued around 7 p.m. Wednesday, and the two were found at 5:30 this morning.
This story had a longer lead, but I think that was needed to give readers an idea of what happened. The story also mixes in a lot of quotes that help advance the story more than paraphrasing would. For a straight forward story, I like how specific information about the little girl was added. It seems to soften the story and make it more worth reading.
I also noticed this was an updated story (stated under the headline). I thought it tied in well since we recently learned about newspapers taking more time to handle follow up stories.
