Williams vs. Williams

Venus and Serena Williams have 17 Grand Slam titles between them. This Saturday this number is guaranteed to go to 18.

For the fourth time at Wimbledon, the Williams sisters will face each other for the championship.

"Oh, my God, this is my eighth final, and it's a dream come to true to be here again and have the opportunity to hold the plate up," Venus said.

Serena beat Venus in 2002 and the 2003 Wimbledon final. However, Venus came out on top of her sister last year.

"The more we play, the better it gets," Serena said.

The road to the finals was much easier for Venus as she crushed Dinara Safina 6-1, 6-0 in 51 minutes. It took Serena 2 hours, 49 minutes - the longest woman's semifinal in at least 40 years - to overcome Elena Dementieva 6-7, 7-5, 8-6.

It's appropriate that a Williams will win Wimbledon in 2009 as they clearly dominated the rest of the players.

Analysis: I wrote this blog at 1:25 p.m., less than an hour after the match finished. The Chicago Tribune's online site already had a full story. It is a great example of a "newspaper" staying current using their online capabilities. The days of waiting for the morning paper are coming to an end for this type of story. The same is true for all major sporting events.
The battle between the Williams sisters is the main story in woman's tennis. Stephen Wilson did a great job of presenting this family battle and how Serena and Venus view their rivalry.
